Monthly Newsletter for September 2009
Volume 4, Issue 9
Greetings,
Every month I must reflect and put words together that inform the members on the status of the Post. Let me point out what I observed; last month, we had a party and celebrated two members 50th wedding anniversary, we cooked, served and ate meals together with our community, members met to organize, repair and clean the Post, we gathered in the lounge to talk, laugh, sing and cheer together, all the Post organizations met to contribute and work together, we road together to pay our respects to a fallen hero, we mourned the loss of members together. What's the status of the Post? Great, as long as we're together. Thanks for a Great month.
Volunteerism alone will never get the job done. Just as important is teamwork. The act of volunteers working as a team will leave a mark that others will remember and want to become a part of.
Let us not forget why we gather
For God and Country
Tony Alvarez, Commander Post 130
The month of August seemed to be hectic for me as your new Adjutant. While the duties and activities for this office almost overwhelming. I am getting a handle on most of what I have to do.
Our membership is at 45.5%. Please renew your dues to help the Post reach it's 50% goal for September. The early bird dinner will be held on November 18th so make sure your 2010 card has the early bird stamp on it. Without the stamp you will not be eligible for the free early bird dinner, October 1st is the cutoff date.
Remember that in October we have fish fry dinner starting every Friday.
It is now the time of year, that children are back in school. Be aware that they may be on the way to or from school Drive Carefully and be safe.
For God and Country.
Carl Pretz, Adjutant.

It's been a long hot summer. Looking forward to fall. We appreciate all who have been here to support your Post. Pat and Spam Sinkovic celebrated their anniversary here with family and friends. They renewed their vows followed by good food and music, congratulations to Pat and Spam!
The house committee is here every Wednesday taking care of our post and lounge. Thanks to Cutty, Ron Costa, Bob Mims, Allen Leslee and Gary W.
The Italian Fest was on the 19th of August, we appreciate all who joined us for good food and good time. Our Commander (Tony Alvarez) and Ron Costa kept all the food warm. Ron was in charge of keeping the bread "Toasty". Paula set up the table and donated a salad with all the fixings. Julie Cusson brought the good veggie Lasagna.
You are all great!

It is going to be an exciting fall at our Post! The American Legion Riders are actively planning the October 24th poker run, named the 'Halloweenie Run'. During the planning, calling vendors, working with our brothers and sisters at other posts and other motorcycle enthusiasts, it pays to pause and reflect on what it is that we as American Legion Riders stand for.
Our backpatch is more than just a symbol that we share - we, as members of the American Legion, the Auxiliary and the SAL stand for something.
It was an honor to stand with many of our Chapter and many from neighboring Chapter 323 in Lehigh Acres and Chapter 336 in N. Ft. Myers along with our friends in the Patriot Guard Riders on 15 August 2009. We stood in honor of fallen US Marine Sgt Michael C. Roy. It was a long and tiring day, but we stood stoic in his honor - the least we could do for a young man who gave his life for our continued freedoms. Each time we participate in a positive, subtle and public display such as this, we do ourselves proud and we show the world what the American Legion stands for. We Support Our Veterans & their families.
I've never been more proud to wear the ALR patch.
Remember, any Legionnaire, Auxiliary or SAL member in good standing can join our American Legion Riders Chapter. Stand with us as we honor our Veterans, our Post and our Country.
For God and Country,
Ray Leventhal, Director
American Legion Riders
Florida Chapter 130
What is the SAL? There's perhaps no better definition than that which is found in the Preamble to the SAL National Constitution
Proud possessors of a priceless heritage, we male descendants of veterans of the Great Wars, associate ourselves together as "Sons of The American Legion" for the following purposes:
"To uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America; to maintain law and order; to foster and perpetuate a true spirit of Americanism; to preserve the memories of our former members and the associations of our members and our forefathers in the Great Wars; to inculcate a sense of individual obligation to the community, state and nation; to combat the autocracy of both the classes and masses; to make right the master of might; to promote peace and good will on earth; to safeguard and transmit to posterity the principles of justice, freedom and democracy; to consecrate and sanctify our friendship by our devotion to mutual helpfulness; to adopt in letter and spirit all of the great principles for which The American Legion stands; and to assist in carrying on for God and Country."
God Bless
Craig Bartoshuk, 2nd Vice Commander
Squadron 130
Here's some inspiring words I found. Its called: Rest Safely in His Care By Helen Steiner Rice
There are many things in life
That we cannot understand.
But we must trust God's judgment
And be guided by His hand,
And all who have God's blessing
Can rest safely in His care.
For He promises safe passage
On the wings of faith and prayer.
Sam Renfro, Chaplain
